Catalina Island is a magical place. Something about it makes you feel like you are a plane-ride away, somewhere tropical, isolated, and beautiful. But really, only an hour or so away from my hometown, a quick boat ride brings you to one of the cutest places on Earth.
Avalon Harbor is the main city in Catalina and has a variety of stores, restaurants, and little shops to fulfill all your island needs. The colorful houses that line the coastal hills look like something out of a magazine, like some hidden Italian gem. All the people are friendly and the little town adds to the charm of the island.
Moonstone Cove is a standard anchoring spot for Newport Beach regulars. The quaint cove creates a fun and friendly atmosphere. Tons of families and friends go ashore to grill dinner in each other’s company, resulting in new friends and everyone sharing stories from their day. And at 5 ‘o clock everyday, the sound of boat horns fill the air signaling that the “somewhere” that its five ‘o clock is here!!
Some of the best stories from our trips always include tubing. If you have a raft and a dingy, go for it. You will have a smile on your face the entire time while struggling to hold on for your life. Or jumping from the top of the boats. No matter the temperature of the water, this will always be the best wake up call.
Catalina Island makes you forget about all your worries and I think there has to be something in the water because this place is magic!!
