The Way Out

Sitting in the BCN airport, on the way out, and it makes me feel so small. But in the best way. People going, coming, arriving, leaving, saying goodbye, embracing loved ones, anxious to get home, ready for a vacation. Everyone has a different story and I get to be a part of it for a split-fraction. A second of eye contact, a shared line, a brief interaction. I always wish I could know where every person was headed, what life they lead, but if I tried to find that all out, I would miss my flight…

Seeing all these people and these places made me reflect on the last two weeks. Its been a long one, filled with lots of transport and lots of sights. I am tired, achy, jetlagged, and sore, but my heart is full. New memories, new friends and new experiences- some I could have never dreamed of.

Each place I went to seemed more beautiful than the last and I couldn’t help myself from exclaiming “this is the most beautiful place I have ever been!”…. at every place. Nothing can prepare you to experience something you have only ever seen in photos, textbooks, magazines, and videos. It felt so surreal and half the time I was convinced I was dreaming. This was a trip of a lifetime (something I usually say after ever trip, and hope I always do).

There was no better way to close out what seemed to be an endless summer…

14 days, 4 countries, 11 cities, 6 flights, 7 train rides, 1 gondola ride, lots of metro stops, and 13 taxis, making for one unforgettable trip.

With love,

Carly
